LIFE ON THE EDGE: RONDA – A CITY SPREAD OVER TWO CLIFFS

Image
Ronda is located in the province of Malaga and is considered by many to be one of the oldest settlements in the world. However, this city is distinguished from others by its unusual architecture, as well as the nature in which it was built. Ronda is located in Spain, in the middle of the Serra de Ronda mountain range. Locals here live on the edge of a 120-meter-high and 70-meter-wide canyon, which makes Ronda one of the most interesting cities on the planet. Life on the edge is everyday life for the locals, and they wouldn’t trade it for life anywhere else. The city is spread over two cliffs, between which flows the fast mountain river Guadalevin. It has about 35,000 inhabitants, and the divided parts of the city are connected by three bridges, Puente Romano, Puente Vieho and Puente Nuevo. The last bridge was built in an extremely inconvenient place, even 120 meters above the canyon. In addition to architecture and history, the city is also known for the fact that the famous bullfights...

Image
Venice will not yet charge entrance fees for visitors. The city museum and tourist mecca of northern Italy postponed the plan to introduce tickets for visitors even though it had been planned since mid-2020. The city council of the city of Venice has not yet fully approved the new ticketing process, according to a spokesman for the mayor, Luigi Bruniardo. As a measure to combat overtourism, in 2019, the city administration of Venice came up with a plan according to which, from July 1, 2020, an entrance fee to Venice would be charged at least three euros, and according to the idea at the time, this fee would apply to travelers who they come to Venice for a day by land or by cruise ship. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this decision was postponed until July 1, 2021. During the pandemic, Venice was faced with an unusual situation, to be left without tourists. NEW YEAR’S TREE IN RIO – FOR GUINNESS

Image
The origin of the tradition of decorating the New Year tree is unknown. According to some sources, the custom appeared in the 16th century in Germany, and gained the popularity it has today during the time of Martin Luther. In the middle of the 19th century, Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, started this tradition in Great Britain, after which it would spread to Europe and the rest of the world. During that time, many records were broken for the decoration of Christmas trees – there were also extremely high and unimaginably expensive ones, and we highlight for you some of the most interesting Christmas tree decorations. Image
Chinese New Year is a traditional manifestation of the New Year’s celebration according to the lunar calendar, which plays an important role in Chinese tradition. It is also called the Lunar New Year, because the date of the Chinese New Year celebration is related to the position of the moon.   Chinese New Year begins with the new moon and is celebrated for fifteen days in China and in all Chinese communities around the world.   The date of the New Year’s celebration changes every year and varies from January 20th to February 20th.   This year, the Chinese New Year begins on January 22 and is celebrated for two weeks. The origin of the Chinese New Year comes from a legend, according to which a few thousand years ago a monster named Nian (Year) would attack the locals at the beginning of each year.   The monster was afraid of noise and bright lights, as well as the color red, so every year celebrations were held at the beginning of the New Year and  would ...
